Vicente Gayo is an interesting band from Mexico City. They put on a good show with a lot of energy but their sound was mostly noisy, not that melodic. They were giving away cool Speak n’Spell stickers and were selling really nice t-shirts. Also: Many extra points for using a Commodore 64 (the computer I first learned to program on) during their show.
Hopefully by now you saw the trailer… Here’s the full story (and videos).
Thanks to a nice discount obtained through work, I signed up for a trapeze class at Trapeze Austin. These kinds of schools are quite rare, and apparently this is the only in Texas and around.
The trapeze platform at Trapeze Austin
Their rig is located inside Soccer Zone in south Austin. On my class there were a total of ten people, about half of them with some experience, and the other half newbies.
Catcher trapeze
Us newbies went through a small introduction in a low trapeze: how to hang, how to hang from your feet, etc. The we went ahead and took turns in the actual trapeze! I had both a harness, so the whole thing feels (and is) extremely safe.
No time right now to write about the whole thing. I will do that later, and I will also post the full videos. For now, I leave you with a little bit of iMovie magic to whet your appetite.
The City of Austin is renaming the Solid Waste Services Department and they want our opinion. I’d like to name this contest “Solid Waste of my Taxes Department”. Still, it’s amusing and I’m always on board with amusing.
The current winning entry is Fred Durst Society of the Humanities and Arts. The Ministry of Filth is a good one too. I would LOVE to see garbage trucks with that name painted on the side.
A 2000 mile wide storm is covering Austin by now. Temperature is at -5° C and can reach -8°. Sure, for those of you in Chicago it may be nothing – but for a desert flower such as myself it is too much to bear.
Remember how cold it got last year? This might be worse. At least no hail is expected.
Today was the first ever Gypsy Picnic Trailer Food Festival. Food trailers have been popping up everywhere in Austin these last few years. The great thing about food trailers is that you can drive them around, so finally somebody had the great idea of putting a festival together at Auditorium Shores: Good, varied, affordable food all in one place.
