Vicente Gayo is an interesting band from Mexico City. They put on a good show with a lot of energy but their sound was mostly noisy, not that melodic. They were giving away cool Speak n’Spell stickers and were selling really nice t-shirts. Also: Many extra points for using a Commodore 64 (the computer I first learned to program on) during their show.

SXSW – The Strokes
The Strokes played on Thursday at Auditorium Shores as part of SXSW. The concert was free and it was packed. I attached a video of their last song, which they played with a large fireworks display as a backdrop – read the full post to view.
Floating heads
As I walked on Congress last night, I saw this neat 3d projection display which was probably set up for SXSW.

SXSW 2010 Music Day 4
Ok, last SXSW 2010 post.
Saturday was the final day of South By Southwest. Destination: Beauty Bar – or rather, a seemingly improvised venue called “Beauty Bar/Palm door” three blocks south of the real Beauty Bar. The place had three nasty problems:
- A serious drainage issue that made the whole place stink, even though the bathrooms were surprisingly neat.
- The bar had no way to charge credit cards, which is bad for today’s cash-less American society (and for my friends with cash who were nice enough to buy me beer).
- A horribly annoying wooden column right in front of the stage, as you can see in the photos I took.
In spite of this, it turned out to be an excellent night with one of the best shows I’ve seen in a SXSW.

SXSW 2010 Music Day 2 (More)
Hard to catch up with all the stuff I saw. Here are some more photos and videos from last Thursday at South By Southwest (Warning: Extreme close-ups). First, some photos of Ozomatli’s awesome dance circle finale, where they get off stage with the crowd. Then, if you read more, you can see to another video of Bajofondo and one of Ozomatli that didn’t make it into the last post.
SXSW 2010 Music Day 3
At this point I’m feeling the effects of two days of concerts plus longer than usual workdays. But I had to get back to Auditorium Shores to see a classic rock act.
Not only are they still alive and playing, but they currently have the Top Selling 8-track in the World! These guys were playing before I was born… I mean, I thought La Maldita Vecindad looked old but these people make them look like Hanna Montana. I only know a few of their songs yet it was a really good concert.

SXSW 2010 Music Day 1
SXSW is upon us. Last night the Music Festival got started (the Interactive and Film parts start earlier). On the first night I went dowtown with Eli to see the shows at Antone’s. The line was really long and we barely made it in. We only got to see the last two shows of the night. I apologize for the crappier-than-usual photos: I brought my pocket digital camera but not its memory card. I guess the camera wasn’t the only thing in need for better memory. So it’s all crappy iPhone photos/video.

SXSW ‘09: Day 3 at Dirty Dog Bar
For day 3 (Friday, March 20th), the original plan was to see The Proclaimers or Tricky and Devo. This is where not having a badge really hurt. So I ended up at Dirty Dog Bar to see some more Latin American bands.

Superlasciva: Cool Argentinian rock band. I had never heard about them but based on the number of views on the YouTube video I posted of them, they are pretty popular. I like that they use an accordeon. Too bad none of their CDs can be found on iTunes nor Amazon.
