The Browser Wars II
About three and a half years ago I took a look at the browser usage statistics here in The MKX®. A lot has happened since: Safari came out for Windows, mobile browsing finally became usable with the iPhone, and Google released a fast new browser called Chrome. I think it’s about time we take another look:
| Browser | Internet Q4 2009 (by Net Applications) |
The MKX® April 2006 |
The MKX® December 2009 |
| Internet Explorer | 64% | 59.32% | 38.57% |
| Firefox | 24.44% | 27.12% | 34.84% |
| Safari | 4.40% | 9.32% | 18.55% |
| Chrome | 3.82% | No data | 5.68% |
| Opera | 2.25% | 2.54% | 0.49% |
| Netscape | 0.31% | 0.85% | No data |

Conclusions:
- Firefox, Safari usage keeps climbing.
- Internet Explorer use is declining.
- Chrome came out of nowhere and in a few months has a respectable number of users (myself included).
- People who don’t use Internet Explorer are smarter and better looking. Thus, in average, our readers are smarter and better looking than the rest of the world.
- Opera is dying a slow, painful death.
As an interesting not, now 2.75% of all our visits are from an iPhone or iPod touch. Thanks for reading.

Random good deed
While walking around at my local Borders bookstore, I noticed a book was in the wrong shelf. So I moved it to the right one even though I myself am not a Pastafarian.
What random good deed have you done lately? Photographic proof follows.

Yes, Mexico will be opening the World Cup. Pretty cool.
Sure Soft Solid Part IV
Previous related posts: I, II, III.
I finally ran out of my (discontinued) Sure Soft Solid supply. It lasted me a little over a year. While you can still find both Sure Soft Solid and the replacement Sure MAX online, they are terribly expensive. At brick-and-mortar stores I couldn’t find either one. Not at HEB, not at Walmart, not at Walgreens.
What I did find at Walmart was a single lonely Old Spice Red Zone High Performance Solid bar, the one mentioned by Moi in this comment – he wasn’t lying after all. It was the “after hours” smell. Whatever that means.
Same parent company, same ingredients, but the smell… I already feel more manly.
Male to female ratio at work
I just learned that there are 5.26 men for each woman where I work. This is not the average for the whole company, just for the building I’m at. For the whole company the numbers are slightly (but not much) more balanced.
Keep in mind that I work in the Research and Development building. No HR, no Sales, almost no Marketing where I am. Draw your own conclusions.
World Cup pot allocations

They announced the pot allocations for the Final Draw to be help in Cape Town in two days. CONCACAF teams were placed in pot 2 together with Asia and Oceania. This means that no matter how lucky we get, things will be tough for Mexico.
Café Tacvba 20:20

As part of their 20th anniversary celebrations, Mexican rock band Café Tacvba is touring 20 cities. Austin is one of them. I got last minute tickets to see them perform at La Zona Rosa. As usual, great concert. And even though I have seen them play live many times (Feria Monterrey, La Huasteca, ACL TV Show, ACL Festival, Stubbs twice, La Zona Rosa just to name a few) it’s always a great show, plus this time I had to bring a newbie.

YouTube clip may follow… I’m a little scared.
Texas Stars
Got free tickets through Shlomit’s friend Rachel (thanks Rachel) to see the Texas Stars last Wednesday, Austin’s new hockey team on the AHL. I used to love hockey and I had never been to a hockey game before. It’s awesome. The Stars won 2-1 in a shootout. Here’s the winning shootout, for your enjoyment:
