Chupete vs Santos

Rayados forward Humberto “Chupete” Suazo likes to score goals against Santos Laguna in finals. The man is a gifted genius. The third goal he scored in the Mexican League 2010 final was amazing. And yesterday he scored again in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League final after dribbling his way around 6 opponents. They are both great goals.

Which one do you like better?

Monterrey Interliga Champion

Monterrey winners of the Interliga 2010

Last night, Club de Fútbol Monterrey (previously featured) won the Interliga 2010 by defeating América 3-1 in penalty kicks. This is the second title they’ve won recently and it gets them into this year’s edition of the Copa Libertadores, the continent’s most important club competition and the oldest soccer tournament in the world. This will be the second time “Los Rayados” play in this tournament, and the first time ever that the current Mexican champion represents Mexico in this Cup.

2010 is shaping up to be quite a soccer year for me…

Photo of the day #20

Below you can see soccer idol Francisco Javier “El Abuelo” Cruz with my friend Yoni Wapinski. Turns out that sometime in the mid-eighties the players of best Mexican soccer team Rayados de Monterrey came over to my school. Someone snapped this photo and it hung on a wall in Yoni’s room ever since, making all of his friends that came over very envious.

Yes, the photo is a photo of the original photo, hence my reflection.

Things are looking up

Instead of staying in Austin to watch the first leg of the Mexican Quarterfinals –Monterrey VS Chivas (the Superlíder)- on cable, I drove to Round Rock to watch it on Dish Network. Little did I know that a hail storm was brewing, which proceeded to knock out the TV signal sometime after Chivas scored the 1-0. It also delivered some Texas-sized chunks of ice while my two month old car was parked outside. Life wasn’t good.

Yep, these will give you a concussion.

We were able to quickly clear up Correa’s garage and bring in my car. No damage done. By the time the signal came back Monterrey was winning 2-1. The game ended with a clear 4-1 victory. Three by Borgetti. Life is good.
