No respect at all

Faithful readers of this blog know of some of my past sports-related incidents, specifically this one and this one.

Well, to my surprise a couple of weeks ago I was tipped of a photograph of myself in the elevator. Now, ever distrustful of elevators (and airplanes, cell phones, computers, and all things technological) as I am, I always use the stairs to go to my sixth floor office so I hadn’t seen said picture.

The number of people alerting me of the photo grew. I finally (after 15 seconds) caved in to curiousity and went to check it out. This is the photo (click for larger version):

It turns out it isn’t really me, I have much nicer legs.

The Killers

Another concert. Thanks to a couple of hand-me-down tickets from Lucia who went out of town at the last minute, I got to see The Killers last night. Cool show, even if I’m not that big of a fan and don’t know many of their songs. Lots of girls too, it almost fell like a Luis Miguel concert.

Do not try this at home

While browsing the World Wide Web, I bumped into this old website.

In one of the pages there is a list of contacts, each one of them with a mailto: link. This is the online equivalent of having unprotected group sex at a Gay Parade afterparty in Botswana.
Now, I don’t know who is the schmuck that put that website up there in the first place (he probably listed himself first). According to the HTML source, that thing has been there for a while:

META NAME=”GENERATOR” CONTENT=”Adobe PageMill 2.0 Mac” and

This file created 12/24/96 12:56 AM by Claris Home Page version 2.0

To the defense of the schmuck, he created the website waaay before the spam epidemic really started.

Photo of the day #9

Here’s an old photo (October 22nd, 1980). From left to right: Marcos (that’d be me), Jacobo (my older brother), Thelma (my mom), and Moi (my younger brother). I don’t know why my brothers look so confused. I also don’t know why the photo is in black and white… being 1980 and all. Amazingly, we all look exactly the same.

Broza

Yesterday I attended a small concert adn Q&A session by David Broza at the JCAA. The real full-fledged concert is tonight, but I don’t have tickets (I saw him in concert about 5 years ago at the CYJ 50th anniversary celebration). Nice.

Ouch

Believe it or not (I still don’t fully believe it), I managed to re-fracture my collarbone last Sunday. It is with great emotional and physical (but mostly physical) pain that I have decided to retire from competitive amateur soccer. I wasn’t even good to begin with.

Here’s yesterday x-ray:

And I know. You told me so.

Joost

I have been beta testing Joost. This is a computer app created by the same guys who did Kazaa and Skype. It is a peer-to-peer video broadcasting application and it wants to do to the TV industry what Skype is doing to telephony and Kazaa did to file distribution.

The video and sound quality are very good and the interface is slick, especially considering that this is pre-release software. The downside is that there is still very little to watch, but that should change with time. Also, as far as I can tell, it does not broadcast live events at all (I would pay for certain games, for instance).

Joost is still by invitation only. I have one invite left in my account. If you have an Intel Mac and would like to try it out, leave a comment.
