Tomacco Becomes A Reality!
October 29 Posted By Adam Source: KPTV

Rob Baur, a huge Simpsons fan, grafted a tomato plant to a tobacco plant, grew it, and tonight he has proof from the lab that it worked. “What we found was nicotine in the leaves”. said scientist Ray Grimsbo. The plant grew off the tobacco roots and sucked up the nicotine, just like Tomacco on The Simpsons. The lab hasn’t tested if the actual tomato has nicotine in it yet, but they say it probably does. “Generally in the fruit there is more material concentrated because that’s what everything’s going through to produce the fruit for the next generation. I would expect there would be more.” And that would make the real life tomacco plant very poisonous. Rob Baur says he grew the tomacco plant just for fun, just to see if it would really work. But what’s next for him? “I’ll have to review my DVD’s to see if there is more Simpsons science available.”

EASports FIFA 2004 includes Monterrey

Few video game related news could make as happy as this one….

November 4 marks the date EA Sports releases FIFA 2004, the new version in a long chain of the excellent soccer video games. Needless to say, since I’ve been playing them on my Sega Genesis (RIP) in the early nineties, I’ve awaited the moment when they would include my team Monterrey (current Champion of the Mexican league after a 17 year drought – but doing miserably this season).

Well, the wait is over. Next week, I’ll be the first in line to buy the new FIFA.

UPDATE: Thanks very much to my big brother Jaco who brought such good news to an otherwise grey day.

The Bat-Cave

Two days ago, somehow, a bat sneaked into the sixth floor of the Truchard Design Center. How? I don’t know, the windows don’t even open. Anyway, Mike Jablin was able to snap a photo of the bat (hard, because it flies really fast).
Anyway, it was a fun 20 minutes of ducking a flying bat.

Hell froze over

Yesterday, Apple released its iTunes for Windoze.

Well, of course that made me happy… since I use Windoze at work, it means I can drop that piece of junk player I had to use (WinAmp) and can now use iTunes, which is, by the way, exactly like the Mac version down to Aqua scrollbars and Rendezvous music sharing(!). It also means I can finally listen to the music I bought through the iTunes Music Store at work.

Except… you can only authorize three computers to listen to the music. And it seems like I authorized some friend’s computer during one of my demos (this was a Music Store demo) in addition to my iBook and my brother’s iBook. I’m trying to track this friend down (it wasn’t Gustavo’s Powerbook… it might be Jaramillo’s iBook) in order to deauthorize it and then authorize my PC at work.

Annoying.

Anyway, blinded with the Reality Distortion Field, I also bought a .mac account.
We’ll shortly see how that goes.

Update [October 20, 2003]: We’ve checked Gustavo’s and Daniel’s computers. They were not authorized with my iTunes account. My apologies to them. The hunt for the third computer continues.

New photo albums

I have uploaded 3 new albums.
One is from the AEPI party last week.
The other one is from a barbecue we had at Chai’s place some time ago.
Last but not least, a few pictures we took in Mexico last weekend on my trip to Monterrey.

As usual, I’ll remove the albums some time in the near future so save anything you want. Don’t forget to post your comments. Also, if you want, email me for higher quality versions of the photographs.

Enjoy!
