Happy New 2004

365 days ago (it seems like it was yesterday) this blog was created. And so an era was born. Now, a year later, still nobody reads what I write here but for some reason I continue documenting my life for the whole world just in case one day, somebody cares.

Happy new Year!!!

UPDATE: Due to popular demand, I have uploaded the photos from the party. You can get them here. As usual, I have uploaded medium quality versions. If you want any of them full size, contact me.

UPDATE 2: Maripaz has pointed out a spelling error in the above text. It is now fixed. How ignorant of me!

I just had lunch with Bjarne Stroustrup

Well… me and another 250 persons or so.
For those not in the know, Bjarne Stroustrup designed and implemented the C++ language.
He is visiting National Instruments today and gave a conference. Very interesting, touching on everything from the goals and future direction of C++ and standarization processes to his opinion on Java and C#. The Q&A session was very interesting (although cut short) as it was more specific to the uses we internally have for the language.

All in all a very interesting talk.

The Cell Phone Saga Part 5

My number got transferred today! It took them 9 days, instead of the “up to 7 days” I was promised.
To T-Mobile’s credit, though, after 7 days (and at the end of the promised 48 hour period) they did call to let me know it was taking longer than usual and I was credited $35.

Next: rebates.

The Cell Phone Saga Part 4

I finally picked up my USB-Bluetooth adapter. I hate the fact that it sticks out of my iBook, but I can live with it.

Well… the thing is GREAT!

I used iSync to transfer some numbers to my cell phone. It’s easy – no problems at all!
But you can do other stuff, for example: you can connect to the phone from the Mac’s address book. This way, if anyone calls you, a dialog pops up on the computer. Or you can dial by right-clicking on a contact.

It was also easy to transfer files, and the phone can play midi files… so my new ring is the Star Wars Cantina song (am I a geek or what 😉 ).
I transfered some pictures I took with the phone to the computer, and this is perhaps the only thing that dissapointed me. The quality is HORRIBLE. I’ll upload an example here soon.

Oh, yeah… I’m still waiting for my number to be transferred.

[UPDATE December 9]: I was informed today that my number transfer request will be done in the next 48 hours.

The Cell Phone Saga Part 3

I got my new cell phone this morning.
Amazon sent my stuff in 2 shipments, and the first one they sent (the USB Bluetooth adapter) hasn’t gotten here yet. Go figure.

The phone is very cool, and is charging now. The headset is very cool too, and is now done charging.

I have called T-Mobile to transfer my number over to them. It took me 5 minutes on the phone. I was told it can take up to 7 days for the change to take place. I’ll let my readers (all two of you) know when it actually happens.

Next: Time to fill out those horrible rebates.

The Cell Phone Saga Part 2

Well, I finally bough my new cellphone. I got it through Amazon.com. Soon I’ll receive my new t610 (sorry, to t630 yet). Plus I got a bluetooth USB adapter for my mac. And the deal included a Jabra bluetooth headset for free. After rebates and all the involved pain, I should be all set for wireless nirvana… at least for a year, until my new contact with T-Mobile expires and I start hunting for a new cell phone again.

I should receive all this next week, and then we’ll see how the number portability thing goes.

No ugly people were harmed making this blog.
